Job Overview The Environment Manager provides guidance and support to Heathrow Business Units to enable them to meet environmental management objectives and targets through technical assistance including operational procedures and tools that form the wider environmental management system. The role also provides assurance to Heathrow by highlighting relevant environmental legislation (including specific permits or regulatory authorisations that may be required) and offering compliance advice. Principal Accountabilities Assist the wider sustainability and environment team to translate environment strategies into implementation and action plans throughout the business, working in partnership with environment leads in each Business Unit to interpret and deliver environment strategy and targets via practical implementation plans and projects  Develop and maintain Heathrow’s environmental management system, including identifying environmental training opportunities and solutions for Heathrow staff to improve the technical competence and environmental awareness Assist in the production and technical review of all Heathrow environmental operating procedures and supporting documentation (instructions, guidance, training packages etc.) including the environmental management resources and pages published on, ‘TheHub’ intranet site  Assist in the review and interpretation of environmental monitoring and performance data and  support the Business Units and the sustainability and environment team to carry out periodic reviews to identify trends and issues for escalation and to drive continuous improvement  Escalate issues or areas of concern relating to Heathrow’s environmental management performance via the appropriate environmental governance channel as appropriate to ensure a timely and effective resolution.  Coordinate the Heathrow Environmental Management Committee or equivalent Advise and support the operational business units to maintain compliance with all environmental and planning regulations, consents and permits  Co-ordinate, and in some cases lead, environmental incident investigations to determine causal factors, recommend remediation plans and work to ensure these are satisfactorily completed  Work with the Sustainability Communications Advisor to develop communications and engagement tools to enable Business Units and companies on-campus to understand the role they play and improve performance in environmental management matters Qualifications & Experience Degree educated in an environment-related discipline or equivalent with experience of working on sustainability or environmental policy issues, ideally within a corporate environment  Sound knowledge of current and future legislation, statutory requirements and good practice relating to Heathrow’s environmental impacts  Strong understanding of Heathrow’s strategic agenda and stakeholder management challenges Experience of working with virtual teams and achieving results through others  Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and influencing skills  Sound analytical skills with the ability to objectively interpret scientific data, draw conclusions and when required develop pragmatic & cost effective solutions  Practical experience of undertaking and leading environmental audits, and working knowledge of environmental auditing and assurance processes  Practical experience of developing, implementing and maintaining effective environmental management systems Experience of working with business units and internal stakeholders in a large organisation to drive environmental improvement  Experience of working with and influencing regulatory bodies and external stakeholders Our plans are ambitious ones.
