CalMac Ferries Limited are the UK’s largest ferry operator by routes and vessels deployed; we operate 32 vessels delivering lifeline ferry services to 22 of the islands off the West Coast of Scotland, including the Outer Hebrides and the Isles of Skye, Mull and Islay. CalMac Ferries is also the delegated statutory harbour authority operating 24 harbours and slipways on behalf of the statutory harbour authority The purpose of the role will be to manage the environmental performance of the company and to develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies that promote sustainable delivery of the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry (CHFS) and Harbour Contract and ensure compliance with environmental legislation and relevant standards (such as ISO 14001 and ISO 50001) applicable to both vessel and shore based activities Principal accountabilities Environment planning         Ensure CHFS is up to date with changes in environmental legislation and initiatives including EU directives Produce environment strategy and plan, as part of the wider HSQE strategy Produce and manage environmental stakeholder plan Liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency SEPA and MCA and other environmental stakeholders as identified in the stakeholder plan Environment assurance       Develop environmental policies and practices Develop schemes for recycling, pollution reduction and pollution prevention Assist operations with the implementation of environmental policies and procedures Assure compliance with environmental legislation Audit, analyse and collate environmental performance data and report to relevant stakeholders To work closely with other areas in the business to influence conformity with the Company Management System Management of programme of delivery to achieve new ISO accreditations and to maintain existing accreditations Facilitate environmental reviews to ensure the objectives remain in line with the current standards and corporate strategy Manage environmental strategy budgets Training and education        Liaise with internal staff including senior managers and directors Provide environmental training to staff at all levels Produce educational resources and collaterals for staff supporting delivery of the Contract The accountabilities support delivery of the following outcomes/ outputs: Environment strategy and plan Environmental Aspect and Impacts Register (EAIR) Environmental legal register Delivery against the Environment plan and Contract deliverables Manage the Sustainable Environmental Data Management tool Management of the key supplier relationships – such as waste management Keep up to date with forthcoming regulatory changes and promulgate this information to the business Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly reports highlighting performance against the plan, audit findings, trends and legal updates Key Competencies and behaviours Demonstrate our commitment to reducing the impact on the environment of our operations Work cooperatively and supportively with colleagues, developing positive, open working relationships. Have a strong focus on continuous learning for yourself, others and the organisation Ability to come up with innovative, creative and imaginative solutions Adopt a methodical approach to work Drive to put energy into achieving results and take action to exceed goals and expectations Anticipate, meet and exceed the needs of customers Use judgement to take quick and confident decisions Lead and motivate others Qualifications, skills and experience Qualifications Degree/HND in a subject such as energy engineering, environmental health, environmental sciences/management, biosciences, applied science, engineering, or physics Institute of Environmental Assessment (IEMA) Membership Skills Strong written/verbal communication skills and a persuasive and influential communicator Demonstrate excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities A strong working knowledge of all Environmental legislation and its impact on the business Experience Extensive experience working in a related senior management position preferably in the marine or oil & gas industry and in particular working with Environmental standards such as  ISO 14001, ISO 50001 Experience in participating in the development of environmental strategy and initiatives and driving cultural change in relation to the environment, including risk management and can demonstrate a successful outcome Experience of working with reporting and analysis software Experience of implementing and auditing environmental standards If you are interested in this vacancy please apply online at www.calmac.co.uk/careers no later than 9 September 2016.
