Water Resource and Flood Risk Specialist Job Reference: TD103 Location: Birmingham Directorate: Technical Salary: Competitive As a Water Resources and Flood Risk Specialist at HS2 you will lead on Water Framework Directive decision making at the highest level, contributing to the scheme’s compliance. Sitting within the Water Resources and Flood Risk Team, you will work alongside Hydrogeologists and Flood Risk Specialists and lead on Water Framework Directive related assessments (including individual elements) and compliance. The team fits within a broader Environment team for which you will assist in ensuring technical quality, specifications, standards and assurance for the Water Resources and Flood Risk aspects of the HS2 programme. About the role: Contribute strongly to the development of HS2’s approach to ensuring compliance with the Water Framework Directive and provide a technical overview to ensure work accords with best practice. Work closely with the Construction Directorate, contractors and consultants to review draft assessments (including individual element) and consent applications to ensure the HS2 programme is complaint with the Water Framework Directive. Ensure cost balanced mitigation measures for the impact of HS2 are identified, developed and implemented. Develop good working relationships and negotiate with the Environment Agency, Lead local Flood Authorities, Internal Drainage Boards. Design and deliver specific work streams relating to the Water Framework Directive aspects of the HS2 programme are met fully and within agreed timeframes. Work with and manage consultants to deliver aspects of the HS2 programme, for example, Water Framework Directive surveys. The role will cover EIA to construction and cover all project phases and so a background across several areas would be advantageous. About You: Degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject. Chartered membership (or working towards) of an appropriate body. Proven track record of dealing with Water Framework Directive issues on complex projects. Detailed knowledge of the Water Framework Directive component elements. Extensive knowledge of relevant UK legislation especially the Water Framework Directive. Thorough understanding of construction practices and appropriate mitigation techniques. Skilled and competent at engaging with complex stakeholder groups.
