Working in the Environmental Consulting Business within the EIA team, as an Associate EIA specialist you will have the ability to lead large and complex projects and take a leading position in dealing with Client contacts and supporting the management of the EIA team     Mainly working on high profile development and major infrastructure projects for private and public sector clients at the planning and design stage.  You would be a leading member of the Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) team, responsible for the preparation, co-ordination and management of scoping reports and environmental statements. You would mainly be working as EIA Project Manager in a multi-disciplinary team, composed of Arup specialists and external consultants.  Your role would include managing the EIA process throughout and reviewing all technical input into Scoping Reports, Environmental Statements and Non-Technical Summaries. You would be managing potentially large teams of more specialist staff and be responsible for technical quality and financial control and reporting.  You will be involved in interfacing with multi-disciplinary project teams, communicating and liaising with clients, and taking the lead in business development activities. You will be managing external consultants providing specialist inputs to projects. Your role will include engaging and negotiating with statutory stakeholders as part of the EIA process. A key part of this role will be to demonstrate leadership abilities, allied with flexibility and initiative to pursue and respond to new business opportunities within and beyond the EIA field.   You would report to the leader of the EIA team.   Essential Skills and Knowledge: Significant and in depth  first-hand experience of managing the environmental impact assessment of medium or large scale building and major infrastructure projects, and the preparation of Environmental Statements; A strong focus of meeting and exceeding client requirements and a commitment to excellence is critical; Highly developed client management skills; Demonstrable ability at business development within internal and external markets; Highly developed team leadership skills and able to demonstrate these have been successfully applied on large projects; Excellent analytical skills will be required, in relation to EIA technical and project management issues; Excellent presentation and report writing skills; Expert knowledge of UK and European EIA legislation, including for DCOs, hybrid Bill and TWA projects etc. Excellent understanding and experience of the application of relevant legislation, policy and guidance in respect of EIA and impact assessment for a wide range of project types, at all stages of the EIA process, including; §  Options appraisal and evaluation; §  Screening of projects; §  Effective scoping of topic inputs to assessments; §  Management of assessment process; §  Managing and liaising with technical specialists, monitoring progress and providing timely constructive feedback; §  Drafting ES documents, including introductory sections; §  Reviewing and editing technical text; §  Drafting non-technical summaries.   The following knowledge or skills would also be desirable: ·         Well-developed understanding of sustainability issues and skills in other complementary fields, e.g. SEA, SA, HIA; ·         Understanding of engagement in development projects and experience of organising and managing community consultation.   Qualifications: A good honours degree in a relevant subject; Membership of a relevant institution (e.g. IEMA, IES), and full Chartered status will be required.
