The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has the responsibility for the management of property, infrastructure and related services to ensure strategic management of the Defence Estate as a whole, optimising investment and, critically, supporting military capability to the best effect. The Environmental Planning Team provides environmental planning, management and assessment advice to DIO and the military customer.  Environmental Planning is one of the constituent teams of DIO Safety, Environment and Engineering (SEE), and delivers advice across the DIO and MOD, both in the UK and abroad, on Town & Country Planning, Environmental Planning, Environmental Management Systems and Sustainability. The Environmental Advisors are accountable for adherence to and conformation with legal requirements, MOD Policy and DIO processes and operating procedures. The Environmental Advisors will support MOD plans, programmes and projects which have environmental management and planning issues including the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), MOD mandated non-Statutory equivalents to SEA and EIA, Environmental Management Systems, Sustainability Appraisals, and CEEQUAL Assessments, to MOD Integrated Rural Management Plans. Main responsibilities will include leading on environmental aspects of projects; providing practitioner guidance and environmental advice to customers; and undertaking and providing support for environmental audits amongst other tasks. This is a professionally challenging post with the opportunity of considerably broadening experience of environmental management and planning techniques in the UK and Overseas; successful applicants should have an applicable degree and should be able to demonstrate suitable post qualification experience and knowledge for a role at this level. Membership of an appropriate professional organisation such as IEMA would be beneficial.  Ability with languages would be useful but not mandatory. This post requires travel and overnight stays within the UK and overseas; there will be occasional working out of Westdown Camp in Tilshead. Due to the nature of this role, if you are successful in your application you will need to undertake a medical assessment as part of your provisional offer of employment.
