Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. As a senior member of an established team, you will be responsible for environmental consultancy delivered from our offices, primarily in Leeds and York, but with occasional involvement in Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, and Cumbria, together with business and team development activities.   Your core professional expertise will be in EIA management, ideally with additional related skills. The role will require travel to our offices throughout the Yorkshire, and elsewhere in UK. You will be a chartered environmentalist, with membership of an appropriate professional institute, and will be qualified in one, and probably more, of the following: Environmental science; Geography; Environmental management Ecology; Landscape architecture; Pollution control; Planning; Economics; Air quality and/or acoustics; Waste management; Resource efficiency; Archaeology; Soil science; Agriculture or agricultural engineering; Urban design; Water sciences; Energy management. The role will initially focus on the delivery of high-quality EIA programmes and authorship of robust Environmental Statements and related documents. These may include projects in urban development, road and rail infrastructure, energy, and water-related development. The post will require a good understanding of client and business needs, and will require the candidate to demonstrate an active interest in the business development process. In keeping with this aim, excellent communications skills and an ability to develop personal networks will be required. This post is likely to progress towards a higher leadership role, and the appointed candidate will be encouraged to undertake training, coaching and other self-development activities. The role will report to NW& Yorkshire Environment Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader, and will require close liaison with our UK Environment Leader in London, and other sector leaders in the UK and abroad.  You will be required to work directly with senior leadership, directors, project and business leaders, business development officers, marketers and contract staff, and must be comfortable working with staff at all levels. You will need to work closely with peers throughout the UKMEA Environmental Network, and partners in engineering and other teams.   Role This is an opportunity to undertake a varied role to: Deliver high-quality EIA programmes to agreed budgets and deadlines; Contribute to team resourcing, training, and day-to-day management; Identify business development opportunities Take an active part in developing Arup’s presence on external bodies and organisations; Mentor junior staff and encourage their personal development goals;  Represent Arup at key client meetings; Take a support or lead role (as appropriate) in the preparation of  bids and tenders; Develop skills in management and motivation of the NWY Environment Team; Attend NWY leadership and Environment Executive meetings when required, and to report on activity and successes; Maintain Arup Management Systems. Identify skills gaps and advise the leadership of potential need for training in technical or professional topics.
