Duration:             3 years fixed term Background The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, now in its 10th year, connects more than 75 of the world's greatest cities, representing 500+ million people and one quarter of the global economy. Created and led by cities, C40 is focused on tackling climate change and driving urban action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks, while increasing the health, wellbeing and economic opportunities of urban citizens. The current chair of the C40 is Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes; three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President ofthe Board. Our international staff works with the C40 network under the leadership of city governments to deliver this mission. Using a data-driven approach, our team identifies and promotes the exchange of proven programmes and policies developed by cities; provides world-class research, technical expertise and access to key partners to deliver new programmes and policies with cities; and communicates cities' individual achievements and collective leadership. In 2015, C40 co-founded the Compact of Mayors to create a platform to demonstrate the collective impact of city climate action, recognise local efforts and at the same time help drive more aggressive city climate actions. Underpinning the Compact of Mayors is a requirement for robust evidence-based climate action planning. The C40 Measurement and Planning Initiative works to ensure this objective by developing standards and tools, training city staff and facilitating knowledge exchange between cities. Responsibilities: Working closely with the Programme Manager, Compact of Mayors (Climate Change Mitigation) and a team of local contractors, develop and deliver a varied technical assistance programme to support cities in: ·      Compile city-wide greenhouse has emission inventories ·      Set evidence-based reduction targets ·      Develop robust climate action plans. The main areas of responsibility will include: ·      Help cities to understand the requirements of the GPC, identify and source the required data, and complete a city-wide greenhouse gas inventory ·      Conduct and review audits, to confirm city-wide greenhouse gas inventories meet the requirements of the GPC and the Compact of Mayors ·      Support cities to estimate future emission and select ambitious emission reduction targets, that reflect the city's context by developing a business-as-usual scenario and a range of emission reduction scenarios   ·      Provide guidance on climate action planning, including stakeholder management and developing an implementation plan and monitoring framework ·      Develop tools, guidance, and case studies on data management, inventory development, goal setting, climate action planning and evaluation systems to suit the needs of multiple audiences. Person Specification: ·      Significant experience in government, business or NGO sectors with a focus on sustainability and/or climate change, and substantive experience working with or within municipal governments ·      Technical expertise in completing and auditing city-wide greenhouse gas emission inventories (specifically using the GPC), scenario modeling, setting emission reduction targets and developing climate action plans ·      Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking and analytical capabilities, with advanced MS Excel and data management skills ·      Strong interpersonal, relationship building and written and verbal communication skills, combined with English fluency ·      Experience of developing and facilitating webinars and interactive and enquiry-based workshops ·       International experience} working across different cultures} languages and time zones. Reporting Structure: The position reports to the Programme Manager, Compact of Mayors (Climate Change Mitigation). The preferred location for this position is London.
