Duration: 2 years fixed term Background The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, now in its 10th year, connects more than 75 of the world's greatest cities, representing 500+ million people and one quarter of the global economy. Created and led by cities, C40 is focused on tackling climate change and driving urban action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks, while increasing the health, wellbeing and economic opportunities of urban citizens. The current chair of the C40 is Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes; three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President ofthe Board. Our international staff works with the C40 network under the leadership of city governments to deliver this mission. Using a data-driven approach, our team identifies and promotes the exchange of proven programmes and policies developed by cities; provides world-class research, technical expertise and access to key partners to deliver new programmes and policies with cities; and communicates cities' individual achievements and collective leadership. In 2015, C40 co-founded the Compact of Mayors to create a platform to demonstrate the collective impact of city climate action, recognise local efforts and at the same time help drive more aggressive city climate actions. Underpinning the Compact of Mayors is a requirement for robust evidence-based climate action planning. The C40 Measurement and Planning Initiative works to ensure this objective by developing standards and tools, training city staff and facilitating knowledge exchange between cities. Project Manager, Mitigation goals and Emissions accounting standards We are looking for an experienced individual to lead on the development of two new city-specific standards: a)        Measuring project-level emissions (to quantify, attribute and report the change in greenhouse gas emissions resulting from specific projects) b)       Setting targets (city-wide and project-level) These will be developed in partnership with WRI, and will need to be consistent with the following Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards: Global Protocol for Community Scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories (GPC), Policy and Action Standard; and Mitigation Goal Standard. The ideal candidate will combine strong project management capabilities, excellent analytics and communication skills with expertise in GHG accounting and target setting, and a solid understanding of cities and climate change.   Responsibilities: Working closely with the Head of Measurement & Planning, develop and publish two new standards. The five main areas of responsibility are: o     Research current best practice in emissions accounting and target setting and review related standards across different sectors o     Engage C40 cities to ensure their commitment and cooperation, and manage and maintain effective working relationships and communications with C40 cities, Regional Directors and Heads of Initiatives o     Establish technical working groups, develop initial drafts, facilitate the standard development process and project manage the standards to publication o     Set up and manage a pilot programme with C40 cities, providing ongoing technical assistance to help build capacity through webinars, workshops, direct support and facilitation of peer-to-peer exchange o     Develop tools, guidance, and case studies to support the roll-out and uptake of the standards Person Specification: o     Significant experience in government, business or NGO sectors with a focus on sustainability and/or climate change, and substantive experience working with or within municipal governments o     Technical expertise in completing and auditing city-wide greenhouse gas emission inventories, target setting and developing climate action plans o     Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking and analytical capabilities, with advanced MS Excel and data management skills o     Demonstrable project and people management experience and strong interpersonal, relationship building and written and verbal communication skills, combined with English fluency oExperience of developing and facilitating webinars and interactive and enquiry-based workshops • International experience} working across different cultures} languages and time zones Reporting Structure: The position reports to the Head of Measurement & Planning.
