Our client are a family-run architectural, planning and design practice with over 25 years of residential experience. They are looking for a Head of Ecology wishing to potentially be their own boss, whilst helping to lead the direction of a new Ecology Consultancy. This position will be based in Wiltshire. The successful applicant will be required to manage the ecological function ensuring all projects are provided with ecological support. You will be required to liaise with Planners, Project Managers, Technicians and General Public on the implementation of ecological enhancements. Applicants, will need to be enthusiastic, dynamic and possess leadership attributes to grow a new Ecology Consultancy. Role Responsibilities: -Undertake field surveys and co-ordinate and deliver ecological mitigation works (including Extended Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys). -Watching brief, toolbox talk & on site bat mitigation to be carried out as required for all licenced projects. -Coordinate and manage ecological sub-contractors used in further surveys and mitigation delivery. -Produce and review technical reports and plans and compile EPS and non-EPS license applications (in line with the findings from field surveys). -Managing ecology in projects to deliver work efficiently, to legislation and best practice -Design and develop report and plan templates for the documentation of ecological assessment and management - concentrating on EPS management. -Production of further project plans and procedures (Japanese Knotweed Management Plan, Biodiversity Management Plan, Habitat Creation Plan). -Management of ecological budgets and deadlines for projects. -Provide support and advice on relevant ecological legislation to ensure compliance. -Management of own time and workload. Qualifications & Skills required for this position: -Appropriate degree(s) in ecological/biological subject -Full Member of IEEM -Survey licences (GCN and bats as minimum) licensed to survey for protected species in England, Scotland and Wales -Full Driving Licence -Solid ecological management experience within the construction industry. -Fully aware of regulatory, legislative and company requirements. -Robust surveying and reporting skills. Habitat surveys - including Phase 1, extended Phase 1, Phase 2 and River Corridor Surveys. Vegetation surveys. Protected species surveys - bats, great crested newts, reptiles, water voles, otters, badgers, etc. -Experience of writing EPSM licenses for: bats, great crested newts, dormice.  -Ecological Assessment - including the design of mitigation measures for any identified impacts. -Thorough understanding of UK/EU nature conservation legislation and planning policy. In return our client are offering a generous salary (depending on experience) £34-48K with an excellent benefits package.
