Our client are seeking to recruit a Senior or Principal Ecologist to join their team in London.   The ideal candidate will have experience in undertaking extended Phase 1 habitat and protected species surveys on development sites.  Ideally you will be competent in the survey of at least two of the following key protected species / species groups: great crested newts, badgers, bats, reptiles, dormice, water voles, birds.  You will also have experience in project and task management, including the preparation of tenders, client liaison, team resourcing, and budgeting and forecasting. This key role offers excellent opportunities for progression and to take on mentoring/staff management responsibilities.  You will have the opportunity to build client relationships and manage a range of projects.   Key Responsibilities You will work closely with ecology team members and with colleagues in other technical disciplines on a wide variety of legally protected species work, ecological impact assessments (EcIAs) and habitat creation, enhancement and management schemes Qualifications Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in ecology or a related subject -An MSc or PhD in a relevant subject would be beneficial -You will: be a team player who has managed ecological projects (including undertaking ecological impact assessments); have won ecological work in a competitive environment; and have strong experience in ecological survey work (with the main focus being on the terrestrial environment) -You will also have a demonstrable high standard of report writing, undertaken for a range of clients and purposes, including: Extended Phase 1 reports; protected species survey reports; EcIAs; ecology chapters in Environmental Statements; and EPSM licences. -You will have the ability to critically review your own work and will ideally have experience of reviewing colleagues' technical reporting (this is essential for the Principal post) -Proven Business Development skills would be advantageous -Experience in undertaking Habitats Regulations Assessments at both the project and plan level would be beneficial -Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) would also be beneficial -A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role as is the flexibility to work unsocial hours and regularly to work away on site In return our client offer an competitive salary package, technical / management training and exposure to a broad range of project types, working closely with other environmental disciplines.
