Our client is recruiting an Assistant Geotechnical Engineer to be based in the Surrey region to assist in focusing efforts within our client's infrastructure (highway, railway and building environment) and heavy civils projects in the UK and possibly overseas.  The successful client will be expected to effectively deliver: Geotechnical engineering (design and consultancy) specific tasks contribute with engineering input to multi -disciplinary infrastructure (railway, highways and buildings) sectors in a design and consultancy capacity Undertake desktop and site based studies in support of geotechnical and civil design. Produce Ground Investigation Reports (GIRs) and Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs), under technical direction, to support engineering delivery, in accordance with Eurocode 7 (EC7) requirements Undertake foundation analysis and design in support of engineering projects, in accordance with current national and international codes of practice (specifically Eurocodes) Assist in the design of slope stabilisation measures, retaining walls, earthworks and geotechnical structures Design the specification and supervision of ground investigations, including management of sub-contractors on site and scheduling laboratory testing of soil, rock and groundwater samples Design of geotechnical instrumentation (eg. piezometers, standpipes, inclinometers) Inspect and  carry out geotechnical assessment of existing infrastructure assets (eg. highway, rail earthworks) Plan, co-ordinate and supervise remedial works, including soil/rock slopes, piles, retaining walls, gravity foundations, track and other structures Personal Qualities Highly motivated, and able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision Committed to personal and professional development Good team-working skills, particularly in relation to the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects, and in the support and development of more junior staff Good communication skills at all levels, both in oral presentations and written reports, particularly in client/external meetings Good analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills Leadership and Management: Ability to plan, co-ordinate and supervise sub-contractors to arrange and undertake GI works and routine supervision and hands on advice for slope stabilisation schemes in soil and rock slopes. Communication & Team Work: Engineering delivery with respect to both design and consultancy services.  To support multi-disciplinary infrastructure (rail, highway and building) projects and contribute to work packages undertaken with other groups. Systems & Processes / Safety and Environment: Observation of all our client's own company Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental commercial and project management disciplines and procedures, as relevant to tasks undertaken Essential Qualifications: Degree level education, civil engineering/engineering geology with particular speciality in geotechnical, engineering geology or foundation engineering. Qualifying degree to achieve Chartered status. Technical MSc level degree preferable. CSCS card holder Desirable Qualifications and Formal Training: Progressing towards Chartered Engineer status either through ICE/ CGeol or equivalent. Masters degree
