Our client is seeking a Chartered Tunnel Design Engineer. As a Tunnel Design Engineer, you will have involvement and make a key contribution to a range of global projects taking responsibility for a variety of key deliverables from feasibility, design, analysis through to site or project management, dependent on project demands. The role will specifically be working as a design engineer on one of our client's major projects. Job roles / responsibilities: - Co-ordination with other technical disciplines including architectural, structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineers covering a range of project requirements from new build to modification, maintenance and refurbishment - Design calculations and drawings for tunnel main bore and interfaces between tunnels, shafts and structures - Involvement in design option studies and value engineering solutions - Manage numerical modelling analysis on the tunnel or underground works structure and related engineering - Work with BIM authoring tools: Bentley AECOSim, BIM Common Data Environment: Bentley ProjectWise configured to BS1192 Our client is seeking a candidate with the following characteristics: - Strong academic qualifications ideally a civil engineering (or equivalent) preferably with MEng or MA qualifications although not essential - Chartered or working towards charter status - Experience of working within a design consultancy on multiple concurrent commissions, and representing the company to clients - Design risk management, construction programming and quality assurance management - Experience of methods, tools and techniques for the design and assessment of tunnel designs supporting assessment to a range of project demands - Practical experience in the construction of shafts and sprayed concrete lined tunnels preferably with UK design codes - An understanding of the basic principles of Building Information Modelling and experience with BIM authoring tools and the associated processes, specifically BS1192 would be an advantage - Ideally experience in structural design and understanding of basic soil or rock mechanics - Ideally experience with both geotechnical and structural analysis programmes including CRISP, FLAC, Staad Pro - Good communication, team working and problem solving skills are essential - Willing to travel in support of business activities
