Our client is a leading Multi-disciplined Consultancy currently recruiting for a Principal Ecologist located in London The successful candidate is likely in the first instance to act as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing ecological inputs in support the delivery of a major infrastructure scheme, where our client are currently co-ordinating the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and are involved in a range of pre-construction contracts associated with preparations for delivery. Although the majority of work is in the UK candidates with appropriate experience and skills, may have the opportunity to work overseas from time to time The successful candidate will have six years or more experience of working as an ecological consultant, with a proven track record of providing terrestrial ecological inputs to infrastructure projects, including assessment in accordance with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) guidelines. Essentials -Terrestrial ecology consultancy experience; -Experience of contributing to EIAs for major infrastructure schemes -Detailed knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy and Environmental Impact Assessment; -Excellent report writing skills; -Acting as a specialist in one or more areas of terrestrial ecology which may include protected species; -Comfortable working within a team, or alone; -Good communication skills; -Flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the role, including occasional longer/and or unsociable hours, and to work away from home on occasions; and -Ability to manage own time, and to mentor and motivate others. - Experience of undertaking Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys; -Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). -Experience of ecological assessment in accordance with the CIEEM guidelines for terrestrial impact assessment in the UK Advantageous -Higher degree in a biological science or related discipline; -Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or Chartered Ecologist (CEcol) status -Experience of managing projects and/or individuals -Advanced botanical identification skills; -Holder of protected species survey and mitigation licences Qualifications: this role, you will be degree educated or equivalent to BSc in a biological science or related discipline.
