We employ almost 500 people in 13 offices across England and Scotland and we provide a full range of services across the Commercial, Residential and Rural sectors.   Job Dimensions The Planning Division provides a comprehensive planning service to a range of public and private sector clients.  It provides core skills to developers and landowners in planning and development appraisals, planning applications, planning appeals and land promotion within the core residential, commercial and rural sectors   Job Purpose To act as a town planning consultant for Bidwells in accordance with the Firm's guidance and the RTPI code of professional conduct.  The job entails providing professional advice and acting in the best interests of clients with regards to all town planning matters and undertaking appropriate business development. The post carries a high level of responsibility involving leading on projects of medium to large scale and complexity. It is expected that the post holder will undertake tasks with minimum supervision with occasional guidance from senior colleagues, in appropriate circumstances.   Key Responsibilities Town Planning To take forward new job enquiries and prepare fee proposals. To undertake site assessments to establish development potential including detailed site inspections, planning histories, and policy analyses. To prepare, submit, monitor, and promote planning applications in accordance with agreed client instructions. Lead on/contribute to the co-ordination of Environmental Statements under the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations including input into relevant chapters such as planning policy and socio-economic statements Business Planning and Development Understand the Firm's and divisional business strategy. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Planning marketplace and competition. Develop new business opportunities for location based team; actively sell in to existing clients. Client Relationship Management Project manage the day-to-day delivery of client projects, ensuring client's requirements are met within agreed timescales. Including: Manage and anticipate clients’ needs, ensuring targets, deadlines and service levels are achieved. Internal Relationship Management Identify and suggest ideas to improve communication and processes within the team. Maintain an up to date understanding of other teams and divisions and the services they offer to support the identification of business opportunities. Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues in other teams and divisions and regularly make referrals to other parts of the business. Financial Management Adhere to the financial systems and processes including the creation of jobs, recording of time and expenses, raising invoices and chasing outstanding payments and proactively ensure processes are followed accurately, regularly and on time. Deliver projects and client work within parameters of agreed fee proposals to ensure that profitability is maximised. Quality Management Ensure corporate and divisional quality standards and best practice is adhered to at all times. Check the quality of internal project team members work to ensure high standards are met at all times. Team Work & Development Find opportunities to involve those less experienced in areas of work that would benefit them Support Team Leader to manage and develop the team, including coaching and mentoring those with less experience to increase their knowledge and experience of Planning Law and Practice   Essential knowledge, skills and experience A town planning degree or equivalent and full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute A good up to date and working knowledge of town planning. Ideally this experience will have been gained in either Local Government or in a town planning consultancy environment. Ability to attract new instructions and clients. Sound knowledge of the planning system together with an interest in a wide range of planning issues. Substantial planning experience – circa 10+ years Commercially aware with a focus on the bottom line. Good interpersonal communication skills. Good relationship management skills. Ability to manage and prioritise projects on a day-to-day basis. Full driving licence   Preferred knowledge/experience Experience of Environmental Statements and Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations.
