Our client is a leading Global Environmental Consultancy offering specialist solutions to various Industries. The company are now recruiting for a Senior Ecologist to join their Cambridgeshire office. The successful candidate will be working as part of a joint team of  ecologists and will be expected to manage projects and support staff associated with protected species and other disciplines. The role will involve planning and undertaking protected species surveys as part of site assessments (frequently within the framework of an EIA) including the management of ecology team staff. You will carry out protected species survey work and reporting - including bat roost and transect surveys, full great crested newt pond surveys and HSI assessments, reptile surveys. Preparation of reports on the results of site surveys; the evaluation of the status of a site and its bird populations; the assessment of impacts on birds from proposed developments; and recommendations for surveys, mitigation actions and site management. As a Senior member of the team you will be expected to attend client meetings to negotiate programmes of work and to advise on the implications of the findings of ornithological studies. Preparation and submission of tenders, quotes and project proposals. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic ecologist with at least five years experience working in ecological consultancy and with the following key skills: Candidates will hold a GCN Survey Licence and ideally at least one other Licence.  Must have a good understanding of habitat surveys to a high standard and to identify indicator plant species and habitat types Good working knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation and best practice survey techniques You will need to have good commercial acumen including the ability to liaise with Clients, and to tender for new work. You will need to demonstrate a sound knowledge of environmental law and possess the ability to manage your own workload and that of others. Hold a full driving licence Experience of preparing EPS licence applications  Bird identification skills The successful candidate will be degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science or similar and have a sound knowledge of bat species identification and of surveying roost sites. You will also need to demonstrate substantial experience of designing, managing and undertaking ecological assessments and of applying ecological principles to a range of projects This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career with one of the UK's leading environmental consultancies.
